Carrying forward

While I was swimming laps yesterday, I looked up over my left shoulder and saw a patch of blue amongst the clouds in the sky, then I looked up over my right shoulder and saw another burst of blue and I was wishing I could ask Mum: “Does that count?”

“If there’s enough blue in the sky to make a pair of sailor’s pants,” Mum used to say, “it will clear into a beautiful sunny day.”

Does all the blue have to be in one spot? I wondered as I kicked off at the end.

Contemplating this question, it occurred to me that Mum’s sailor pants analogy is a message of optimism. If there is a little hope, there’s infinite possibility. It is a life-giving message that was carried forward from her mother and her mother before her, which is now being carried forward to my children.

Preserving and carrying forward messages like this one for my clients is what drives me in my work. Together, let’s catapult into 2022. It will be a year of uncertainty and changing goalposts, yet one with infinite possibility.
