Time travel by squinting

Governor Philip Lookout, Beacon Hill, one of the highest points in Sydney at 152m above sea level (City of Sydney to the right of the horizon and North Head to the left). Squint to time travel to 1881 when the trigonometrical beacon was first installed here.

I found myself squinting at shorelines as I travelled around NSW this summer holidays.  Try it!  Stand at a shoreline or any breathtaking vista and squint.  All of the man-made additions in your view will blur and disappear, leaving just pristine nature, the view our ancestors would have seen.

The view from the Three Sisters Lookout at the Blue Mountains is my all-time favourite Australian view. No squinting is required from there.  Gazing out at that infinite space gives me a real feel for the power of Aboriginal sprituality and the lifestyle they had before Europeans arrived in Australia.

My love of imagining what came before us is what drives my passion for life story writing and my urge to capture as many of your stories as I can so they won’t be lost for future generations.
