A Life Story in 3 Minutes

I met a doctor who always wanted to be a farmer yesterday.  His father told him that he didn’t have enough money to set him up as a farmer and to go to uni instead.  So he did medicine and then spent the next 40 years as a GP in a NSW country town.

I got this all from a 3-minute conversation.  I bet if he were 30 years younger we would have just talked about the weather.

Elderly people crave talking about their past.  As Gene D. Cohen writes, in our late 60s we reach our “summing up” phase where we examine and assess our lives, looking back on not only what happened but at what we have learned.

I say bring it on!  That was way more interesting than talking about the weather.
